Prices, 2026: I have decided to keep my general print prices the same for 2026; $25 and $50 for small (8.5x11) and larger size (13x19) cotton rag prints. Prices for specialty prints such as deckled edging, pure carbon, cibachrome and photogravures are priced as listed.

New Images for 2026
In late December of 2025, we saw this bull bison in the backcountry of Wind Cave National Park wallowing in the dirt. He apparently thought we were a threat and approached us with his tail raised, a sign he was agitated. I was able to steel my nerves to capture this close up photograph titled Wild Eyed Bull:

Deckled Images for 2026
Also new for 2026 are some bison images printed on deckled/hand torn paper. I repurposed some sheets of warm Hahnemuhle Copperplate paper (used for etching and photogravure printing) to create additional fine art images for the discriminate buyer: Pictured below are deckled versions of Yellowstone Winter Migration and Tatanka Bull Bison. Tatanka Bull Bison is also available in a 17x22 inch size on deckled Hahnemuhle paper, priced at $125. One print is currently available. Email me at burkhaltertim@hotmail.com for information and purchase via Square, Inc. payments. The 13x19 inch prints are priced at $75 plus shipping. Quantities are very limited due to the unpredictable nature of printing on deckled paper, so image may or may not be currently in stock!

New Premium Print Option 1: Sequoias and Dogwood on Cibachrome
One evening along the Generals Highway in Sequoia National Park in 2001, I spotted light dappling a Giant Sequoia bole, which along with a parallel tree framed a series of dogwood trees in full blossom climbing the hill behind the two trees. A vibrant print medium best captures this magical scene. Cibachrome/Illfochrome is such a medium treasured by collectors but unfortunately has been discontinued as of 2012. There is one commercial print lab in Montana still printing these wonderful images as long as existing chemistry and paper supply lasts. Once the supply is gone, there will be no more prints of this type made. I am fortunate to have two 11x14 prints to offer for sale at $250 per print unmatted and $300 per print matted (16x20). As you can see below, these prints appear to glow from within and appear three-dimensional. Cibachrome has to be seen in person to appreciate the stunning beauty of these prints!
New Premium Print Option 2: Pure Carbon Tatanka Bull Bison print
Based on customer requests, I am now offering a premium Black and White Bison image in a larger, 17x22 inch, size. These prints are made using Pure Carbon pigments which are extremely fade resistant and give the bison a warm brown tint due to the natural tone of the elemental Carbon. The brown tone and heavy weight natural cotton rag paper give the prints an old-fashioned Western look and feel. These prints are also priced at $250 per print unmatted and $300 matted (18x24). This print is an open edition.
Best Selling North American Bison Images
The four Bison images below; Lakota Legend, Yellowstone Winter Bison, Sleeping Bull Bison, and Tatanka Bull Bison are available in multiple sizes and formats. The images below are pictures of the actual prints in 8.5x11 inch format printed with Epson archival pigments on Moab Coldpress Natural textured heavy weight paper (300 gsm). The natural color of the paper lends an antique look to the prints and also, due to the lack of optical brightening agents within the paper, gives the images an extended lifespan (>100 yrs) under normal viewing conditions. The Sleeping Bull Bison is also available as fine art photogravure image in a limited edition (See section below). Lakota Legend is available in sizes up to 20x30 inches. Photogravure Limited Edition: Sleeping Bull Bison
I'm pleased to offer a limited edition fine art print of a sleeping bison made by using a traditional photogravure/etching press technique with a modern twist. Artists from the past, such as Edward Curtis, produced photogravures by transfering a glass plate negative/ image to a copper plate using acid to etch the fine detail and nuances of the original image onto the plate. The etched copper plate was then inked, and a handmade paper of vellum/Japanese tissue, etc was pressed into the fine grooves of the plate resulting in a unique and highly detailed image. Most of Curtis' famous North American Indian project photogravure images are printed in a warmer sepia tone. Elk Boy - Ogalala is an example of Curtis' smaller photogravure images printed in a warm tone (below).
The Sleeping Bull Bison etching print below measures 8x12 inches and is printed on 15x22 inch Hahnemuhle Copperplate Natural paper with a deckled edge. He was photographed in South Dakota using a Leica R6.2 camera, Leitz 280 mm APO lens on Kodak Tri-X film. This gravure edition will be limited to 3 prints, priced at $250 per print. This printing method rivals platinum printing as one of the finest photo reproduction techniques available today. Contact me at burkhaltertim@hotmail.com for further information.
